Help! Please does anybody know how I can obtain a birth certificate for Joseph Michael Lawrence who was born in Gibraltar. I know his fathers name was Michal.
I would be most grateful for any help and advice given.

If this is Joseph in 1911, with son Sydney G from Gins' 1901 census, and daughter Maggie M (now supposedly married) from the 1891 census safc posted then he's got yet another birthplace.....

I think with the two children, and his occupation of waiter being not dissimilar to that of barman, this has to be him.

That's Waiter Hotel, not Waiter, Hated, on the image. Joseph is said to be married. (25 yrs married, 7 children, 5 still living, 2 deceased has been crossed out)

So we have a choice of Gibralter, Dublin Ireland, or Bombay India for his birthplace....

Maggie Mabel and William T (?) are meant to have been married 4 years, 2 children born and living.

EDIT: Hmm, seems it was William F, not William T, and they got around to the marriage in 1913.

Have you definitely eliminated Bombay (census 1901) and Dublin (census 1911) as birthplaces?

Is there further evidence for Gibralter as a birthplace other than in census 1891?

I was drawn to this 1881 census. I know it's Michael rather than Joseph Michael, but people did sometimes chop and change with their names:

Just as an aside, on the marriage of Joseph Michael Lawrence gentleman's servant, to Annie Brown Sloan, in 1885, as posted by safc, Joseph is described as a widower.

Father Michal Lawrence is described as a shopkeeper, and the bride's father is a block maker.

Bride's address was 35 Lyell St, Groom's address was 37 Lyell St.

I have been trying to get my head around all of this. I was told of there being Spanish blood in the family from Dad's side, so that is why I am favouring Gibraltar above Dublin and India. I would dearly love to be able to get hold of a copy of Joseph Michael Lawrences' birth certificate. The problem being I don't have an exact birth date for him.
