I am told that Sydney and William Cole were twins born in London sometime after 1907. To be fair, this information is a bit suspect as I was previously told the twins were Edward and William, but my elderly informant assures me that Sydney and William is the correct pairing!!!

I am also told the twins had siblings Rosina and Patricia and that their father was a grocer.

I have created all sorts of lists to try and match a Sydney and a William with the same year, quarter and district and, in the case of post Aug 1911, mother's maiden name but to no avail. I am now going cross eyed

Any suggestions on how I can find the twins without going mad please?

Who were their parents supposed to have been?

How does your informant relate to them?

You (and he/she) should be working backwards

Which part of London does this refer to?

Why 'after 1907'? What is the significance of the year?

Why are you trying to find them? Are they connected to you?

Do you know if any of them got married? When and to whom? Any children for any of them?

The earliest birth for a Patricia Cole anywhere remotely near to London wasn't until
1916

Very little is known beyond what I have said. I am researching the family for a friend who is in his late 70s. His father was George Cole who he THINKS was born in 1907 in London, possibly Bow. He THINKS his father had 10 or 11 siblings, or it may have been less!

He KNOWS there were twins and that Rosina and Patricia were siblings. He knows their father (his grandfather) was a grocer in London. Beyond that nothing else is known.

I thought my best way of getting some concrete info was to find the twins as there are too many variables with the other siblings

The BEST way to get info is to work back from your friend's birth

Who was his mother? When did his parents marry?

Did his father have a second forename?

Systematic research is the only reliable way to get info

Does your friend know when and where his father died?

Doesn't he have any idea of the names of his grandparents?

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 2 Jun 2015 15:44

Have you done anything about looking for his father's birth?

Or finding him in 1911 on the census?

Posting this as it is on someone's tree on ancestry. Father is a grocer, there is a William and a George born 1907. There also seem to be twins but the wrong names.

Yes Jacqueline, I have systematically got to where I am.

I have his parents marriage cert which tells me his grandfather was Henry (I forgot to mention that before) and that he was a "buyer" which he apparently was - a buyer for a grocer!

I have looked in 1911 but there are no entries that seem to fit without more info.

His father died in Wimbledon.

And yes I am waiting for a posible birth cert

Jacqueline

Jacqueline Report 2 Jun 2015 16:07

I wondered about that one...................but decided the twins were not the right ones

Still, the names have been changed before, so perhaps.................
