trying to find the father of George Henry Adams born c1849 in Fordcomb Kent, All I know about his father is he is called John Adams, George had several siblings and he was married to Eliza Jane DeMeza together they had eleven children all born in Fordcomb Kent, I know his father is John as its on his wedding cert but that's all there is apart from he was a smithy, Any help would be great John is my brick wall.

Thank you for taking the time to read this

Unfortunately, the fact that George names his father as "John" on his marriage certificate does not mean that is true ............

Children whose father died early or who were illegitimate would often put "a name" down in the father box on their marriage certificate ........... it looked better to the other family.

No proof had to be shown as to the veracity of any entry on a marriage certificate ............... I certainly didn't have to prove my father's name and occupation when we married in England in 1967.

Because I cannot find anything that looks like George born in Kent (let alone Fordcombe) in the censuses on ancestry, I looked at the tree that you have

A tree on ancestry has this for him.

GEORGE HENRY Adams
Birth 15 Nov 1848 in Belfont, Westerham, Middlesex, England
Death 24 Feb 1906 in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England

This tree seems to have mistakes on it for Eliza Jane so does not seem to be very credible.

Marriage to GEORGE HENRY Adams
1871 27 Oct Age: 19
Fordcombe (St Peter), Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England

Marriage to Abraham Jenner
1879 Age: 27

Death
1928 Q4 Age: 76
Tonbridge RD, Kent, England

EDIT

Westerham is a town and civil parish in the Sevenoaks District of Kent. It is located on the border of Kent with Greater London and Surrey, bordering Bromley and the Tandridge District. It is located west of Sevenoaks.

alviegal .........

I also wondered about that 1851 Census with John and Hannah Adams. It does seem the most likely of all the George Adams ..... maybe he stretched the truth about his father's occupation on the marriage certificate!

I did NOT confirm your findings with the posting of the 1901 Census ......

....... I copied the census from your own ancestry tree to show that you were saying one thing about George's birthplace while accepting a census on your tree with evidence of another birth place. And that this was confusing me!

In other words ...... you were looking for someone born in a place where he was NOT born. No wonder you couldn't find him!

But equally ........... you were setting us off on a false trail!
