I am trying to trace details of my great grandfather. I was always told he moved to Scotland from Dublin and there seems to be a marriage for who seems to be my great grandmother rose ann forsyth in Renfrewshire however it is to an Anthony gemmell... now this would make sense as they had a son called Anthony however I was always told his name was Lawrence? is he the same person?

Who can say ?

Depending on the time frame you should be able to view the marriage cert on Scotlands People

We can't look at it for you as it's not a subs site

Hi Lisa.
I can't help with Scottish research as such, but do have some suggestions.
You need to let people know what info you are certain of.
Do you know when & where Anthony Gemmell (junior) was born, for example? Is he your direct ancestor, and if not, maybe you have some facts about that person.
It all helps!

It was often the norm to name children after parents and grt grandparents

As they named a son Anthony it may be to distinguish between the dad and son that dad was known as lawrence

From Lisa's other thread

She asked

My great grandmother married Anthony Gemmell in port Glasgow in 1914. Anthony died and she married someone else called Shearer but I cannot seem to find their marriage.

Had a spare credit

1940 SHEARER LAWRENCE GEMMELL ROSE PORT GLASGOW /RENFREW 574/00 0045 No Image

Might explain where your "Lawrence" came from
