Sorry how remiss of me, I got so excited and forgot to thank you Misty. Am pleased that Flip sent you the image. Once again I apologise. Am just going to check that ship now.

Kind regards

I've sent the image to you Mistycat, after all you found him!

Was one of the ships the "Berwick" as that's the one William was on in 1911

Hi Flip, had just messaged you privately to thank you. Yes I do believe it is my William. Once again thanks for all your help and of course everyone else who has taken time to read my post and reply. If anyone comes up with anything else then please do reply to this thread. Am busy now between sites trying to enter stuff onto my ancestry tree.

Kind regards

No problem Kathryn, have sent it back by PM as a PDF file.

Edit: It doesn't tell a lot apart from the ships he served on, and that he enlisted 30/7/1907 for 12 years his occupation was bargeman, and he left in 1919. So if this is him, he can't be the "boy" found on 1901 census.

It must be him though, with the correct birthday, although a year out. Maybe he didn't actually know his real age (he may have also ended up in a workhouse/industrial school?)

Nice one flip. Thank you so much. Am going to mail you now.

You can send it to mine - I'llPM you my e-mail address - that way I can open it and send it back as a normal file.

Actually, if you have winzip on your computer if you save the file to your computer then go double click on it, it should unzip & open as a pdf. But send it to me if you have any problems

Hi, have bought that record for William Bryant but cannot open it. It's a zip file and I don't have a clue. Am wondering if anyone on here would be able to open please if I sent the link to your private email addy or is there some other way I can attach it and then that person send it back to me .

Kind regards

He probably lied about his age, if he was underage when he enlisted. I'd say it was the same person - have just been looking at freebmd and there's not another one born in the right timeframe.

Added: you can download the record from the link posted for £3.36 - though I'm not sure what it will give, but should at least show when he enlisted.

There's a William on the 1901 census (a boy in RN) a patient in Portland, Dorset but the birth place is wrong - it could be him but there has been some mistake on the census?

Kathryn Report 18 Apr 2014 13:03

Hiya, this is a little strange as I have William born 12 March 1888. Am wondering if this is one in the same person albeit there is a years difference in birth. My William was baptised on 7 October 1888.

Kind regards

Beat me to it Flip...

On Kathryn's tree Williams dob is 12.3.1888....confirmed by baptism record (birth date given on far right side)

Do you have a dob for William - the one found by Mistycat was born 12/3/1887 - his record is on national archives:

Hi Misty, that's a good find. Thank you. Wonder if there are any Royal Navy records for that year? Must have a nose. Have been scrolling through the baptisms on CityArk for the births of the Bryant Howell children but haven't found any as yet.

Kind regards

Well done Flip, it could well be son George as I haven't been able to find anything on him or his brother William John in the 1901 or 1911 Census. Must have overlooked the one you've found.

Kind regards

Have just added that 1901 Census to my tree on Ancestry for George Bryant Snr so as not to lose any info. If for any reason at a later stage it is not my George then I can delete it. It's just that I don't, at this stage, want to spend a fortune on certificates.

Hi all, this all wonderful information, thank you so much. In answer to Prickly Holly no I haven't found George James and William John in the 1911 Census nor the 1901 Census.

Kind regards
