Please may i ask for assistance with a lookup for a possibly marriage between John Ratcliffe 1809-1869 and Elizabeth .

John was born in Manchester, the son of William Ratcliffe 1775 Manchester and Ellen Unknown.

If they had children, have you tried one of the children's birth certificates for mother's maiden name?

What census have you found them on together, and where?

Have checked freebmd and im unable to purchase certs for the time being abit skint..... wondered if there was a way round it to find possible maiden name .... Thanks

So does that mean you found a marriage, but aren't able to buy the cert, or you can't find a marriage at all?

There's always the possibility that one of Elizabeth's parents might turn up with them on a census, but there's loads of possibilities on the census so we need to narrow it down.

What were John and his fathers' occupations?

I have a Manchester Ratcliff [without the e] family in my ancestry, spelt on different occasions as Ratcliff, Ratcliffe, and Radcliffe [with a d].
