Looking for proof of grand-parentage.

I have a couple of sisters here, Barbara and Beryl Thackwell, who have a letter from the Salvation Army indicating that their putative grand father was Thomas Arnold of 7 Belgrave Street. They would like to prove that he was their grand father and are considering simple DNA family match test. We are looking for possible descendants who would be willing to help.

found this on ancestry with some more useful info

I am trying to get info on Thomas Yarnold from 7 Belgrave Street, Hastings at around 1923 time. Any info on any year at all would be great.
He is my Great Grandfather.
He was married to another, but neglected to advise my Great Grandmother of this fact while they were stepping out together.
He was from Hastings, she was from St Leonards on sea, upper maze hill.
I am aware of this with thanks to the records of the Salvation Army. I have a very good idea that he was a licensed victualler.
The result being my Grandmother.
More relevant names being Sharp, Handley, and Napier and collins.
Any Ideas welcome.

May I point out that his descendants may not know about his liason and care should be taken in approaching them.
Children from this marriage may be living so I will not post them here.

My sentiments precisely, LadyKira.
Seekers do need to tread carefully with concern for others, in my opinion.
