I am trying to find out if possible who the father of Eliz & Jane Birkett [Graham] they were born in the Rockcliffe area near Carlisle, Cumberland in 1834 & 1836, christened as Birkett dau's of Eleanor Birkett single woman, but on the 1841 census they are down as Graham!! there older brother John is on census as Scott, & the oldest brother Wm Birkett was living with his grandfather Wm Birkett all Eleanor's children were christened Birkett but John later changed his name round to John Birkett Scott, since all 4 kids were born before birth cert's I can not get any futher with father's, the only hope is Eleanor's 5th child Christopher Birkett born 1844 but I'm unable to find a birth cert in the name that he was christened. I can thace Jane as she never used the surname Graham just Birkett, but I can't trace her sister Eliz. I did find Christopher he died in 1936 aged 92yrs his wife died just after him & 4 of his children 1 dau. dying @ 12yrs old, another dau. around her late teens early 20's, & his son Kit dying @ Carlisle hosp. in the 1920ish from injuries recieved in the 1st world war. another of his son's Joseph also died in infantcy, poor Christopher & Mgt had it hard. If anyone can help fill in the blanks I'll be greatful. Joan

Hi Alviegal Yes this is the fam. however Jane & Christopher were Birkett's not Boustead's & I still can't find out what happened to Jane's sister Eliz. who is 2yrs older than Jane, they are both on the 1841 census as Graham's living with Eleanor Birkett. Joan

Hi Michael Yes this is the fam. Jane was my Gt, Gt, grandmother but she never married, but did have 5 children all brought up as Birkett's too. All I have managed to find out about her it would seem her father's surname was Graham even though she never used it but I do'nt know his first name, & her 3rd child Wm's father's first name was Robert but I do'nt know his surname. so I'm at a bit of a loss!!! PM RECEIVED ...

Hi Mike
Eliz Birkett/Graham was born circa 1834/5
she is on the 1841 census [Rockcliffe Carlisle in Cumberland] as Elizabeth Graham living with Eleanor Birkett, John Scott Birkett & Jane Graham .
she was christened in Rockcliffe ch. along with her sister Jane but both were christened as Birkett's & their mother is down as a single woman, Jane always used the name of Birkett throughout her life, I can not find anything of Elizabeth after the 1841 census, there was another Graham fam. that live in the same area who were farmers so I don't want to get them mixed up,
I don't know which surname Eliz used, I seam to have hit a brick wall & don't know what to do next I would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
Joan

*************

You say Elizabeth was christened along with her sister Jane but I can't see a record for it.
Do you have the date ?

Hi Mike My Mother found it in the Rockcliffe ch reg. I think it was around 1838, & they were christened as Elizabeth & Jane Birkett mother Eleanor Birkett single woman, there was no mention of [Graham]. I'm sorry for confusing you with the name! [Lostsole/Joan]

According to IGI Jane was christened in 1839 but no mention of Elizabeth.
Seems strange to transcribe only one
